Why Turkey for Hair Transplants?

FIRST OFF - I've done over 100 hours research, visiting clinics, and exploring the endless internet of before/after pictures and reviews. If you had told me 10 years ago I would be getting my hair transplant in Turkey, I would have told you GFY.

My initial assumption was getting an invasive surgery overseas would be sketchy, and something my Healthcare Lawyer wife would whole-heartedly disagree with. After both of us had done extensive research and getting her vote of confidence, I realized picking Turkey to get my hair transplant surgery was the best decision for me. Here's why:

GRAFT LIMIT - One of the primary reasons I chose Istanbul over a U.S. surgeon was the higher graft limit. U.S. hair clinics and boards conveniently tell you 2500 grafts is the limit per surgery. However, as someone who needed around 3000-4000 grafts for a full head of hair, I knew I would need more than one surgery if I chose to go with a U.S. based surgeon. By choosing Turkey, I was able to get the entire surgery done in one day, allowing for a faster and smoother recovery period.

COST - Another significant factor was the cost. The U.S. clinics quoted me anywhere from $12,000 - $18,000 for 2300 grafts, and that was just for the surgery. I knew I would also have to pay for follow-up appointments and additional surgeries, which quickly added up. Choosing Istanbul allowed me to save a considerable amount of money on the total cost of the surgery, travel, lodging, and transportation. In fact, my entire bill was only around $6,000 USD.

EXPERIENCE - I visited a total of three clinics in Seattle, WA, USA. One in Bellevue where the consultant couldn't stop yapping about Elon Musk's hair. The consulting round and pedigree of the Turkey surgeon was more appealing to me. Combined, those 3 surgeons had 30 years experience. Dr. Gur (who I ultimately picked in Istanbul) had over 25 years' experience himself.

TRAVEL - While the cost savings and higher graft limits were the primary reasons for choosing Istanbul, I also had the added bonus of planning a two-week Europe trip prior to my surgery. I've always wanted to go to Turkey, and this gave me the perfect opportunity to experience a new culture and make the most out of my trip.

Overall, choosing to get my hair transplant surgery done in Istanbul was the best decision I could have made. Not only did I save a significant amount of money, but I also had the opportunity to experience a new culture and get the entire surgery done in one day, allowing for a quicker and smoother recovery period.
